Joomla to be retired

We are planning to retire Joomla, which has been turned off for some time and has been nothing but a nuisance in terms of security vulnerabilities and external hacking attempts. New pages based on this WikiServer implementation and possibly a new server will be pursued in the near-term future.

Chiyoung Jeong makes it to TV!

Our intrepid graduate student Chiyoung Jeong was on the first-beam shift at Fermilab for the Large Hadron Collider turn-on event.  Here is a screen capture from a TV story by a local news affiliate showing him in the FNAL remote control room:

How to use an external editor to make blog entries

I've been searching for more information on how to make blog entries into our highenergy-based user and group blogs from external blog-posting clients. So far I have found a way to do this with at least one very nice such external client, MarsEdit, for Mac OS X.

The explanation for how to do this is contained in the accompanying link. Here are the settings I used. You would have to alter this to put in your own username, etc.

Weblog Name: Alan Sill
Home page URL: https://highenergy.phys.ttu.edu/users/alansill/
Software: Other Metaweblog-compatible
API Endpoint URL: http://highenergy.phys.ttu.edu/RPC2
Blog ID: users/alansill/weblog

I used MarsEdit to make this entry. There may be other such software clients, both free and paid, like this one that can be used from other platforms to make such entries.

Explanatory link: http://www.red-sweater.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=770

Further information is available here: https://highenergy.phys.ttu.edu/wikihelp/en.lproj/wiki/Using_an_external_blog_editor/Using_a_blog_editing_application.html

TTU CMS group page created

Blogs are for personal observations or files (including media files and presentations). We also have created a new TTU CMS group page on the current site intended to hold files of interest to the whole TTU CMS group. A description of that page, including the purpose of the various parts and how they relate to our electronic logbook, is given on the blog page for the TTU CMS group.

Other groups can be defined. Please contact one of us (Van or Alan) to have new groups set up for courses, projects etc..

Blogs, wikis and calendar features

We have enabled some of the new features of the recently upgraded server, including those for personal and group blogs and calendars and group wikis. Note that you can use a variety of external tools for entering text, files and media into your blog, and are not limited to just using the Web interface on this server to do so.

These new features should show up in the users and groups options pages. If you are reading this, you have probably figured out how at least some of it works. See the OS X Leopard Server pages for more details.

Folks who may need to administer some of these features can see the more detailed documentation resources page for downoadable PDF manuals.
