[THEGrid] Agenda and announcement for THEGrid monthly meeting 2004-Sep-03

Hi,

We will hold our monthly operations meeting for THEGrid as announced 
earlier tomorrow, Friday Sep. 3 2004, at 1:00 pm with remote 
participation by ESNet video.

Video instructions are on the web at http://www.es.net under "H.323 
conferencing."  The meeting ID for this meeting series is 8284743 
(82TGRID using telephone-style mnemonics).  If you don't have an H.323 
ESNet video system, you can connect by phone by calling 1-510-883-7860 
and entering 8284743 followed by the # key when the system answers.

The primary purpose of this meeting is to check progress against our 
previous plan, and begin planning for the next 2-day workshop to be 
held at the University of Houston in October.  The dates for the next 
workshop have been set to avoid conflict with the Texas Section APS 
meeting, and are as follows:

Friday - Sat., Oct. 15-16 at University of Houston (host: Larry Pinsky)

We expect that a program and web page will emerge and be posted over 
the coming month.

Over the next month and a half up to the next workshop, we hope to be 
gathering ideas from all of you as to the type of software 
functionality we need to install to allow functioning of an effective 
computing and data grid for our users.  The model that we are following 
is to produce some local expertise at a few institutions that can be 
used to support more widespread computing capabilities at all 
participating institutions, with less expertise required at some of 
them.  This will allow us to scale to a reasonable capability without 
having to develop experts at all institutions.  It will, however, 
require at least someone to participate at each institution in order to 
learn what to install.
